In Cameroon, third-party car insurance is mandatory by law. Every  motor vehicle user is required by Decree-Law No. 65/LF/9 of May 22, 1965 to obtain an Automobile Insurance from a registered Insurance company in Cameroon.

Consequently, operating a motor vehicle without valid insurance coverage constitutes a criminal offence. Violators could face severe penalties, including up to six months of imprisonment and heavy fines.
